An injury has forced Rory MacDonald out of his UFC 158 co-main event bout with Carlos Condit and replacing him in the bout will be Johny Hendricks.
MacDonald’s injury was initially reported by Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting and the UFC has confirmed that MacDonald is out and has been replaced by Hendricks.
Hendricks (13-1) was already booked for the UFC 158 card and was scheduled to face Jake Ellenberger. He is currently on a five fight winning streak and UFC President Dana White has stated that if Hendricks wins at UFC 158, he will be next in line for a title shot in the welterweight division.
Condit (28-6) is the former interim UFC welterweight champion and this will be his first fight since losing to Georges St-Pierre at UFC 154 late last year. Prior to the defeat, he had won five in a row, which included a win over Nick Diaz.
The UFC will look for a new opponent for Ellenberger and a potential replacement could be Tyron Woodley. Following his win at UFC 156 over Jay Hieron, Woodley stated that he would be ready to replace any of the welterweights at UFC 158 if they got injured.
UFC 158 takes place on March 16th from the Bell Centre in Montreal and will be headlined by Georges St-Pierre defending the UFC welterweight title against former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz.
