Title shot on the line for Alistair Overeem at UFC 156

Alistair Overeem will step into the UFC cage tomorrow night for the first time since the end of 2011 when he takes on Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva on the main card of UFC 156 and will be looking to secure a title shot.

If Overeem gets the victory tomorrow night, he will get a title shot according to UFC President Dana White.

White confirmed to the attending media in Las Vegas yesterday that a win by Overeem would secure him a title shot against current UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and that fight would take place later in 2013.

Overeem (36-11-1) was scheduled to face Junior dos Santos for the UFC heavyweight title last summer, however he was suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission following an out of competition drug test.

He served his suspension, which included him taking several drug test to prove to the commission that he is a clean fighter.

However, a win by Bigfoot does not secure him a title shot. White told several media members yesterday that Bigfoot would have to win another fight before a title shot, since Velasquez defeated him last year at UFC 146.
