A featherweight bout has been added to UFC 162 on July 6th in Las Vegas as Chan Sung Jung returns from injury and will face Ricardo Lamas in a battle of top featherweight contenders.
UFC officials announced the fight booking overnight and the fight will take place on the pay-per-view portion of the fight card.
Jung (13-3) has won three straight fights and has been out of action since May of last year due to an injury. During his winning streak, all of the wins have come by stoppage and he has won a fight night bonus in every fight.
After his win over Dustin Poirier at UFC on FUEL TV 3, he was expected to be next in line for a title shot against Jose Aldo. However, a shoulder injury kept him on the sideline and he was unable to secure the shot against Aldo.
Lamas (13-2) moved down to the featherweight division when he came to the UFC via the merger with the WEC. As a featherweight, he has won four in a row which includes a submission of the night bonus against Cub Swanson at UFC on FOX 1.
He recently defeated Erik Koch at UFC on FOX 6 at the beginning of the year and won the fight in the second round by TKO. Following the win, Lamas stated that he wanted a title shot in his next fight. However, Anthony Pettis will be next for Aldo and will need another win to secure a title shot.
UFC 162 takes place on July 6th from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be headlined by Anderson Silva defending the UFC middleweight title against Chris Weidman.
