The UFC has ended the suspension of Matt Mitrione and he will return at UFC on FOX 8 against Brendan Schaub.
UFC officials announced the fight booking on late Wednesday evening and the fight will take place on the preliminary card.
UFC on FOX 8 takes place on July 27th from KeyArena in Seattle and will be headlined by Demetrious Johnson defending the UFC flyweight title against John Moraga.
Mitrione (6-2) has had all of his professional fights take place in the UFC and opened his career with five straight wins. After winning his first five fights, he dropped back to back fights and snapped his losing streak at UFC on FUEL TV 8 earlier this month when he defeated Phil De Fries by knockout in the first round.
Following his fight, he appeared on “The MMA Hour” and made comments about transgender fighter Fallon Fox. He was suspended by the UFC for his comments and UFC President Dana White recently said they Mitrione was fined by the organization.
Schaub (9-3) was a contestant with Mitrione on The Ultimate Fighter 10 and lost in the final to Roy Nelson. Since losing to Nelson, he has won five of his seven fights in the UFC and three of those wins came by TKO/KO.
Just like Mitrione, Schaub recently snapped a two fight losing streak as he defeated Lavar Johnson by unanimous decision at UFC 157. It was only the second time in his career that he has gone the distance, with both times coming in the UFC.
