Carvalho confirmed his released on Twitter after their were media reports out of Canada that he was no longer with the UFC.

“I have been cut by the UFC,” Carvalho tweeted. “Too many FW’s on roster & need to cut back. Business is that way. Only love for the UFC. Hopefully be back. Thx!”

Carvalho (15-6) was signed by the UFC in 2011 and went 2-2 in the organization. After being defeated in his debut at UFC 142, he won back to back fights which included a first round TKO victory over Daniel Pineda at UFC 149.

Three of his four UFC fights were in his home country of Canada and his recent defeat against Elkins at UFC 158 did have some controversy. After Elkins had hurt him with punches, referee Yves Lavigne came in to stop the fight and it appeared that it was a quick stoppage. During a recent Dana White video blog, Lavigne explained to Carvalho why he came in to stop the fight.

Carvalho will now have to win a couple of fights outside of the UFC to work his way back into the organization.
