Nick Newell wanted to face tougher opponents than what the XFC could offer and he has found a new home as he has signed with the World Series of Fighting.
Newell confirmed the signing on Twitter today after MMAFighting.com reported that he had been signed by the organization.
Newell (9-0) has won eight of his nine career fights in the first round including a rear-naked choke submission over Eric Reynolds at XFC 21 to win the organizations lightweight title.
The XFC had announced that he would be defending the title at XFC 24 on June 14th against Scott Holtzman, but Newell never agreed to the fight. He wanted to face tougher competition and with him being unwilling to defend the title against Holtzman, the XFC stripped him of the title and Newell began to look for a new home.
“Nick Newell is an incredible individual who exemplifies the sheer strength of the human spirit and the kind of courage and determination that martial arts embodies, so we are naturally thrilled to welcome him to the World Series of Fighting roster, and look forward to having him compete and, hopefully inspire, our national audience on NBC Sports Network,” said World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo.
It has not been determined when Newell will make his debut with the World Series of Fighting but it’s likely for him to make his debut in either the late summer or early fall of this year.
