Former boxing world champion Ricardo Mayorga made his mixed martial arts debut last night in Nicaragua and won the fight near the end of the second round after it appeared he landed a knee to the spine of his opponent.
Mayorga took on Wesley Tiffer at Omega MMA: Battle of the Americas in the main event of the fight card and the former boxer spent most of the fight on his back. As the second round was concluding, Tiffer was going for an armbar attempt that Mayorga escaped and appeared to land a knee to the spine of his opponent.
The referee did not rule the knee a foul and the cageside doctor ruled that Tiffer would not be able to continue and Mayorga was ruled the winner by TKO at the end of the second round.
Following his win, Mayorga went to Twitter to give his thoughts on the victory.
We want say gracia for all matador fan for support. Tonight was victory not just for us but for boxeo. We finish our opponent EN DOS ROUND!
