UFC on FX 8 Result: Fabio Maldonado snaps 3 fight losing streak with decision win over Roger Hollett

Fabio Maldonado entered the octagon on Saturday in Brazil riding a three fight losing streak and he got his first win since 2010 as he defeated Roger Hollett by decision on the UFC on FX 8 preliminary card. UFC on FX 8

In the opening round, Hollett landed a spinning back kick but the kick landed on the groin of Maldonado. After taking time to recover, Maldonado was able to continue and referee Leon Roberts warned Hollett about the illegal strike.

Once the fight continued, Hollett was able to take the fight to the ground and get the fight where he likely wanted it.

After a lack of action, Roberts stood the fighters up and Hollett looked for a takedown once again. He would continue to look to grapple with Maldonado until the end of the round and stay out of a boxing fight with the former professional boxer.

Maldonado would be able to recover in the second round and even up the fight as he was able to keep the fight on the feet. During the second round, Maldonado worked the body of Hollett in the clinch and Hollett appeared to be slowing down.

After the second round, Hollett complained to his corner that he was having trouble seeing out of his right eye due to a cut and his corner told him to go out in the third round and look for a stoppage.

In the final round, Maldonado was able to control the fight and Hollett struggled to get the fight to the ground. Maldonado continued to work the body of Hollett in the clinch and he asked Hollett to come forward and strike with him. At one point of the round, Maldonado said, “he is not fighting.” The fight would go to the judges as the scorecards read 29-27, 29-28 and 29-27 for the Brazilian.

Maldonado (19-6) is now 2-3 in the UFC and Hollett (13-5) drops to 0-2 in the UFC and could be cut following this performance.
