UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will make his next title defense on September 21st in Toronto as he is challenged by Alexander Gustafsson.
UFC President Dana White announced the fight during his UFC 161 Pre-Fight media scrum in Winnipeg and the fight will headlined UFC 165.
Jones (18-1) will be making his sixth light heavyweight title defense and a win over Gustafsson would break the UFC record for most consecutive light heavyweight title defenses which he is currently tied with Tito Ortiz.
He is recovering from a toe injury suffered in his most recent fight against Chael Sonnen at UFC 159 and is expected to be one hundred percent for UFC 165 in September.
Gustafsson (15-1) is currently on a six fight winning streak in the UFC and his only defeat in the organization came against top ten fighter Phil Davis. His last appearance in the octagon took place in December of last year and he defeated former UFC champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua by unanimous decision .
UFC 165 takes place on September 21st from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto and ticket information for the card will be announced in the coming weeks.
