Bellator 100: Lima-Saunders II and opening round of welterweight tournament

The season eight welterweight tournament final has a new date as Douglas Lima and Ben Saunders will face each other in the main event of Bellator 100 on September 20th in Phoenix.Bellator 100

Bellator officials announced that Lima and Saunders will headline the Bellator 100 card on Friday and the main card will also feature the opening round of the next welterweight tournament.

Tickets for Bellator 100 are currently on now and can be purchased by visiting the Grand Canyon University Arena Box Office or www.GCUArena.com,with tickets starting at just $25.

Lima (24-5) defeated Michail Tsarev and Bryan Baker to make it to his second tournament final, while Saunders (16-5-2) secured his spot in the final by defeating Koffi Adzitso and Raul Amaya. This will be the second time that the American Top Team products will meet in a tournament final as Lima defeated Saunders at Bellator 57 by knockout.

Bellator had previously scheduled for this fight to take place at next week’s Bellator 97 but an injury to Lima forced the fight to be pushed back. Lima is already back in the gym training and is ready to have his tournament final bout with Saunders.

“I can’t wait for this fight,” Lima said. “I have been injured back to back, but this time I’ll be 100% and we going to have one of the best fights of the year. I am ready to fight for the belt and I am coming hard!”

The main card broadcast on Spike TV will also feature the opening round bouts of the season nine welterweight tournament with the matchups being Brent Weedman (21-8-1) vs. Justin Baesman (14-3), War Machine (13-4) vs. Vaughn Anderson (16-1-1), Matt Riddle (7-3) vs. Sergio Junior (29-11) and Mark Scanlon (9-2) vs. Herman Terrado (11-2).

“Phoenix is a location we’ve had on our radar for a long time and we wanted to deliver a stacked card for our first visit to Grand Canyon University,” Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney said. “We’ve got a lot of familiar faces to go along with some new Bellator arrivals, and like always, our welterweight field continues to be loaded with talent.”
