Many people in the mixed martial arts community believed that Chris Weidman was the man to defeat Anderson Silva and he did that on Saturday night in the main event of UFC 162.
As the fight opened, the fighters did not touch gloves and Weidman wasted little time in getting the fight to the ground. Weidman had top position and landed several strikes and he looked to pass.
Weidman decided to go for a heel hook and Silva was able to spin out of the hold and get back to his feet. Silva had his hands on his hips and dared Silva to throw punches at him. Silva continued to ask him to throw punches. The round would end with neither fight landing anything significant and the fight moved into the second round.
In the second round, Silva toyed around with Weidman and it ended up costing him the UFC middleweight title and his undefeated UFC record. Weidman did not fall into the tricks of Silva and landed a left hand that lead to the end of the fight at the 1:18 mark of the second round.
Weidman (10-0) is now 6-0 in the UFC and his last two wins have come by knockout. He said before the fight that he would give Silva a rematch but the former champion said he would not ask for an immediate rematch.
