In a battle of former Strikeforce fighters, Tim Kennedy was able to score a decision victory over Roger Gracie.
As the fight opened, Kennedy used his leg kicks to create his distance but Gracie was able to take the fight to the ground. Gracie transitioned to the back of Kennedy but could not lock in any submissions.
Kennedy got back to his feet and they clinched against the fence. Kennedy was able to separate from his opponent and threw a front kick that missed. Gracie would take the fight to the ground and got the back of Kennedy. Gracie locked in the body triangle and began to look for a submission.
Kennedy would be able to defend the submission attempts of Gracie and get out of the body lock with ten second left in the round. Kennedy landed a couple of strikes from top position as the round came to an end.
In the second round, Kennedy was able to take the fight to the ground and landed several big punches on the ground. Gracie was able to weather the punches and get the fight back to the feet. They would clinch against the fence and Kennedy was able to use a leg trip to take the fight back to the ground.
They were stood up after a lack of action by referee Kim Winslow with 40 seconds left in the second round. They would clinch against the fence until the round ended and the fight moved into the third round.
Kennedy threw multiple leg kicks at the beginning of the third round and was able to get his arms around the waist of Gracie. Gracie was able to break away and took the fight to the ground. Kennedy was able to get back to his feet and clinched with Gracie against the cage.
Winslow would end up breaking up the fighters with 90 seconds left in the fight and the fight was moved to the center of the cage. The remainder of the fight would stay on the feet and the judges would decide the fight.
All three judges scored the fight for Kennedy (16-4) and he has now won back to back fights after losing to Luke Rockhold last year in Strikeforce.
