The opening bout of the UFC on FOX 8 main card was a women’s bantamweight bout as Liz Carmouche scored her first UFC victory as she defeated Jessica Andrade by TKO in the second round.
Both ladies came out swinging as the fight opened and Carmouche clinched Andrade against the cage. Carmouche used a leg trip to take the fight to the ground and looked to take the back of her opponent.
Andrade was able to get back to her feet and they continued to clinch against the cage. Carmouche would be able to get the fight back to the ground and passed to side control. Andrade would work her way back to the feet and slammed Carmouche to the ground.
As Carmouche was attempting to get back to her feet, Andrade went for a guillotine choke but Carmouche would be able to defend the submission and make it to the end of the round.
In the second round, Carmouche was able to get the fight to the ground in the first 30 seconds and was able to advance to side control and then to mount. In the mount position, she rained down punches and Andrade gave up her back. Carmouche continued to throw punches and then went for a rear-naked choke.
Andrade would be able to escape the hold but Carmouche was still in a dominate position. She would continue to throw strikes and referee Herb Dean would stop the fight when Andrade was not able to defend the strikes.
Carmouche (9-3) has now won three of her last four fights and another victory could put her in line for another shot at the UFC women’s bantamweight title.
