Bellator 101 took place this past Friday night at the Moda Center at the Rose Quarter in Portland, Oregon and featured tournament fights in the bantamweight and lightweight divisions.
In the main event, Joe Warren advanced to the final of the season nine bantamweight tournament with a submission victory in the second round over Nick Kirk and will meet Travis Marx in the tournament final later this year.
The main card on Spike TV also featured the opening round of the season nine lightweight tournament as Alexander “Tiger” Sarnavskiy, Ricardo Tirloni, Will Brooks, and Saad Awad advance to the semifinals with victories.
TheMMAReport.com has put together post fight statistics from the fight card and are available below.
- Warren has won back to back fights and this was his first career win by submission. Also, the victory secures his spot in his second Bellator tournament final and will look to join Pat Curran as the only fighters to win Bellator tournaments in two different weight classes.
- Kirk is now 0-3 in Bellator and prior to Friday night, he had only been defeated by decision in his career.
- Sarnavskiy has won four in a row after dropping his Bellator debut and his last three wins have come by submission.
- Marcus Davis suffered his first submission defeat since UFC 118 in 2010 to Nate Diaz and the defeat snapped a three fight unbeaten streak.
- Tirloni snapped a two fight losing streak with his decision win over Rich Clementi and he advances to the Bellator lightweight tournament semifinal for the second time.
- Clementi has dropped back to back fights for the first time since 2011 and this was his first decision lost since 2011 which was against Reza Madadi in Sweden.
- Brooks has won back to back fights since being defeated by Awad earlier this year in the season eight lightweight tournament final. He is now 3-1 in Bellator and he has made it to the third round in all of those wins.
- John Alessio is now 0-3, 1NC in his last four fight and his last win came in March of last year when he defeated Ryan Healy at Score Fighting Series 4.
- Awad has now won three of his four fights since returning to Bellator and all of the wins have come in the first round. He defeated Martin Stapleton by submission and it’s his seventh career win by submission.
- Stapleton was making his United States debut and both of his career losses have come by submission. The defeat snapped an eight fight winning streak, which dated back to 2008.
