The opening bout of the UFC 165 preliminary card on Fox Sports 1 was a bantamweight bout as Mitch Gagnon defeated Dustin Kimura by guillotine choke submission in the first round.
The fight opened with a high pace with Gagnon pushing the pace with his strikes. They would each land significant strikes and Kimura would land a body shot that would hurt Gagnon.
Gagnon immediately went for a takedown which was successful and went for the guillotine choke. Kimura would attempt to roll out of the submission but he could not get out of the hold and went to sleep.
Referee Yves Lavigne noticed that Kimura was not responding and came in to stop the fight. Gagnon (10-2) has now won back to back fights and all of his career wins have come by submission.
