In the co-main event of UFC 166, Daniel Cormier controlled his fight with Roy Nelson and won by unanimous decision.
The fight opened with an exchange of punches before Cormier took the fight to the ground and working his submission game. Nelson would defend the submission and get back to his feet but Cormier was still holding onto him. He keep up the relentless pressure as they clinched against the fence.
While against the fence, Cormier landed several knees but one of the knees hit Nelson in the groin. Nelson was given time to recover from the accidental strike and the fight would continue. After the restart, Nelson was head hunting with his overhand right but he was unable to connect and the fight moved into the second round.
The second round would open up as a striking battle before Cormier looked for a takedown at the two minute mark of the round. He would briefly get the fight to the ground, but Nelson was able to immediately get back to his feet. The remainder of the round would be on the feet with Nelson struggling to mount much offense.
Cormier continued his dominance in the final round as he was able to land punches, kicks and takedowns throughout the round. Nelson tried to bait him into a brawl in the final minute of the fight. Cormier stuck to his game plan and won the fight by unanimous decision.
