The final preliminary bout of the UFC Fight Night 29 card was a welterweight bout as Igor Araujo won his UFC debut by unanimous decision over Ildemar Alcantara.
As the referee started the fight, Araujo landed several leg kicks and looked to take the fight to the ground. Alcantara was able to keep the fight on the feet and they grappled against the cage.
Alcantara was able to get the fight to the ground but Araujo was able to reverse the position. He went for a guillotine choke but Alcantara escaped and he maintained the better position on the mat.
Araujo would get caught in a front choke but he would be able to escape the attempt and have top position. He would maintain the position until the end of the round as he was able to land several punches before the bell sounded.
In the opening 30 seconds of the second round, Araujo attempted to get the fight to the ground. With the attempt being unsuccessful, he landed a combination and Alcantara would take the fight to the ground. Araujo would go for a submission off his back, but Alcantara was able to escape.
Alcantara would stand above him and went into the guard of Araujo. They would stand up and the fight moved back into the center of the cage. Araujo was able to use his striking to take the fight to the ground. He was unable to lock in a submission before the second round came to a close and Alcantara could not get off his back.
In the final round, Alcantara was able to score early with his strikes but Araujo was able to take the fight to the ground. Araujo had the half guard position and landed short strikes in attempt to soften up Alcantara.
While Araujo was landing strikes, Alcantara was attempting to throw up his legs for a potential submission. He would be able to attempt a leg lock but Araujo used the cage to get out of the submission. He would end the fight raining down punches and all three judges would score the fight for him 29-28.
