A torn rotator cuff has forced Jamie Varner to pull out of his scheduled lightweight bout at UFC on FOX 9 next month against Pat Healy.
Varner confirmed the injury late last night and he will be out a “few weeks,” according to the former WEC champion.
UFC on FOX 9 takes place on December 14th from the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, and will be headlined by Demetrious Johnson defending the UFC flyweight title against Joseph Benavidez.
Varner (21-8-1, 2NC) has gone 2-2 since returning to the UFC last year. He is coming off a split decision defeat to Gleison Tibau at UFC 164, which will mark his only fight of 2013 due to his recent injury.
The UFC has begun their search for a new opponent for Healy, who is coming off a decision lost against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
