Former Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren has confirmed that he has signed with ONE Fighting Championships.
Askren confirmed the signing on Monday’s edition of “The MMA Hour” on MMAFighting.com.
While he did not disclose the financial terms of his contract with ONE FC, Askren stated that it’s a two year, fight fight deal with the Asian MMA promotion.
He is expected to make his debut with ONE FC in early 2014 and an opponent will be announced soon by ONE FC.
Askren (12-0) was released from Bellator last month after he wanted to fight in the UFC. The UFC elected to not sign the former Bellator fighter, even though he is undefeated and was a member of the 2008 United States Summer Olympics Wrestling ream.
During his run in Bellator, he won the season two welterweight tournament and won the Bellator title in 2010 against Lyman Good. He defended the title four times and he is coming off a fourth round TKO victory at Bellator 97 against Andrey Koreshkov.
