With JZ Cavalcante out, Justin Gaethje now meets Lewis Gonzalez for inaugural lightweight title at WSOF 8

JZ Cavalante has pulled out of his World Series of Fighting 8 main event bout against Justin Gaethje for the inaugural WSOF lightweight title and taking his place in the bout will be Lewis Gonzalez. WSOF 8

World Series of Fighting officials announced the change on Saturday night during the WSOF 7 main card broadcast on NBCSN.

World Series of Fighting 8 takes place on January 18th from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida and tickets are currently on sale.

Gonzalez (9-0) made his WSOF debut earlier this year and defeated Antonio McKee by technical decision. Seven of his nine wins have come by stoppage with five of those wins coming by submission.

Gaethje (10-0) made his professional debut in 2011 and won his first seven fights before making his WSOF debut in March. His debut in the organization came against Cavalcante at WSOF 2 and won by doctor stoppage at the 2:27 mark of the opening round. Since that win, he has back to back wins by TKO with the most recent win coming in October against Dan Lauzon at WSOF 6.
