Eric Shanks called Dana White recently to see if he had a plan for UFC 169 if the Super Bowl is moved to Saturday

The biggest sporting event of the year in the United States is scheduled to take place on Sunday at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey as the Denver Broncos will face the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII. UFC 169 Poster

However, there is a chance of bad weather storm to hit New Jersey on Sunday and there has been speculation that the game could be moved to Saturday. If the game would be moved to Saturday, this would effect the UFC.

UFC 169: Barao vs. Faber II is scheduled to take place on Saturday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey with the televised preliminary card on Fox Sports 1 and the main card on pay-per-view.

At the UFC on FOX 10 Post Fight Press Conference, UFC Senior Director of Public Relations Dave Sholler issued a statement that the organization has a contingency plan if the Super Bowl is moved to Saturday.

“We are keeping an eye on the Super Bowl in the event of bad weather,” Sholler said. “We are coming up with a contingency plan as a result. If and only if they move the Super Bowl to Saturday, we will move UFC 169 to Sunday. It obviously requires a lot of coordination with the venue, the fighters, and our TV production crews around the world. So again, we will be monitoring the situation very closely and we will only make the change should the Super Bowl move.”

UFC President Dana White was not in attendance at the post fight press conference on Saturday night at the United Center, but he did appeared on the Los Angeles radio station KROQ on Monday. He was a guest on the “Kevin and Bean Show” and told the morning show that Fox Sports President Eric Shanks recently called him and asked if he had a contingency plan if the Super Bowl was moved to Saturday.

“Our partner is Fox and Fox has the Super Bowl this year,” White told KROQ. “The President of Fox [Eric Shanks] calls me the other day and Eric says to me, ‘listen, what is your Saturday?’ What is my plan for Saturday, what do you mean what is plan for Saturday. This thing could get moved. The Super Bowl could get moved to Saturday.”

According to Weather.com, the current conditions on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey calls for temperatures to be in the high 30’s during the afternoon and the temperature is expected to drop to 23 degrees in the evening. There is a 20 percent chance of precipitation and a previous weather forecast 48 hours ago called for a 60 percent chance of precipitation.

The NFL has not publicly set a deadline on when they will decide if the game will be moved from Sunday but it would seem logical that the NFL would notify the teams and Fox by Friday morning if the game is being moved from Sunday to Saturday.

Obviously, White and the UFC are hoping that the Super Bowl does not get moved because if the Super Bowl is moved to Saturday, this could hurt the UFC 169 pay-per-view.

White did state if he has to move UFC 169 to Sunday, the event will have the same start times with the televised preliminary card airing on Fox Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and the pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
