The UFC 171 Preliminary Card on Fox Sports 2 took place this past Saturday and featured Ultimate Fighter 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum scoring the biggest victory of his career as he defeated Rick Story by split decision.
According to Nielsen sources, the UFC 171 preliminary overnight viewership number for the preliminary card landed at 305,000 total viewers. When it came to demographic numbers, the prelims had a .90 in the male 18-49 and .56 in persons 18-49 demographic.
The preliminary card aired on Fox Sports 2 due to men’s college basketball tournaments on Fox Sports 1 and this marked the first time a UFC PPV prelims have aired on Fox Sports 2/FUEL TV since the launch of Fox Sports 1.
The last UFC live fight card to air on Fox Sports 2 was in January as the preliminary card of UFC Fight Night 35 drew 220,000. The main card of that fight card was shown live on Fox Sports 1 and had 629,000 total viewers. If the preliminary card would have aired on Fox Sports 1, it’s likely that it would have been viewed by over 900,000 since the previous two UFC PPV prelims eclipsed that number.
