Bellator 119’s Jason Meisel is excited for opportunity to fight for Bellator

Jason Meisel will make his Bellator debut tomorrow night when he faces Remy Bussieres in a lightweight bout on the preliminary card of Bellator 119 from the Casino Rama Arena in Rama, Ontario, Canada.Bellator 119 Artwork

Meisel (4-3) began his professional mixed martial arts career in 2011 with the Score Fighting Series and opened his career with three straight wins.

After being defeated for the first time in his career at Score Fighting Series 5 by submission, he returned two months later at Score Fighting Series 6 and defeated Eric Attard by unanimous decision.

Following his win at Score Fighting Series 6 in 2012, his next fight would not take place till ten months later and was submitted by TUF Nations finalist Olivier Aubin-Mercier. Meisel admitted that Aubin-Mercier was a stud and he got caught.

“Olivier was a stud,” Meisel said. “He is a stud on the ground. He caught me off guard and no one really seen him coming. I got him just as he was coming out. It was kind of my fault in not doing more research on him.”

After losing to Aubin-Mercier, he returned two months later and lost a decision to Keven Morin. Meisel felt he won the fight and several people told him that he was robbed of the victory. It has been seven months since the decision lost and he will look to snap his two fight winning streak on Friday night.

Friday night will mark Bellator’s first trip to Canada since Bellator 79 in 2012 and Meisel is excited for this opportunity. The Casino Rama Arena is expected to be a sold out crowd and Meisel is looking forward to fighting on the Spike.com prelims.

“I have been following Bellator every since they started. It’s pretty exciting to get the opportunity to be on live internet and television. I am looking forward to it.”

With this being his first fight in Bellator, he wants to make a statement. Currently, he is under a one fight deal with Bellator but understands that an impressive performance could lead to more opportunities with the promotion. Meisel wants to go out there and put on an exciting fight and impress all of the Bellator executives, and the people in attendance.

“I want to be that guy that everyone remembers that fight and remembers the win. If I can make it exciting and get the finish at the end or get the knockout, I want people to be able to remember it and not be like that guy had the boring three rounder.”
