The event and fight booking were announced by UFC officials on late Sunday night.

The most recent UFC fight card to take place from the Staples Center came in the summer of 2012 as UFC on FOX 4 took place from the venue.

Aldo (24-1) defeated Mendes by knockout in their first meeting at UFC 142 at the beginning of 2012. Since their first fight, Aldo has made four successful title defenses and his most recent defense came in February as he defeated Ricardo Lamas by decision.

Mendes (16-1) has won five straight fights since losing to Aldo and four of those victories came by knockout. He is coming off a decision victory at UFC on FOX 9 against Nik Lentz in December and it was his first fight to go to the scorecards since his win over Rani Yahya in 2011.

Tickets for UFC 176: Aldo vs. Mendes II will go on sale June 13th and the UFC will be announcing more information on tickets in the coming weeks.
