The main event of UFC Fight Night 43 was a middleweight bout as Nate Marquardt snapped a three fight losing streak as he scored his first submission victory since 2008 over James Te-Huna.
Marquardt opened the fight by landing a knee that took the fight to the ground and ended up opening a cut over the left eye of Te Huna with short elbows.
Te Huna would be able to get back to his feet, but Marquardt would be able to get the fight back to the ground and achieved the mount position. Marquardt would end up getting the submission as Te Huna was trying to get Marqaurdt off his back and quickly tapped once Marquardt locked in the armbar submission.

As I wrote in my Art of Submissions story recently, locks are extremely rare these days. Amazingly, that’s only 2nd armbar in UFC this year.

There’ve been 232 UFC fights so far in ’14. Dustin Kimura over Jon Delos Reyes was the other armbar. Took place in 1st UFC event of the year

Marquardt wins via first-round armbar. Nice finish.

Marquardt: I think it’s obvious 170 didn’t work for me. Adds he wanted to mix it up tonight, armbar wasn’t part of his plan.

Marquardt emotional after the win. The lesson? Stick with that ‘fro/beard look. Always a winner.
