After all of the speculation over the last twelve hours, it’s now official as former Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker is the new President of Bellator as he is replacing Bjorn Rebney and Tim Danaher, who left the company yesterday.
Viacom official announced the hiring of Coker in a press release on Wednesday afternoon and they will hold a conference call with the media today at 6 p.m. ET.
Coker will be joined by Spike TV President Kevin Kay on the conference call, which will be streamed live on TheMMAReport.com.
In the announcement of Coker becoming the President of Bellator, Kay gave a good indication that the tournament base structure that his been Bellator’s model since the beginning is going away.
“We are excited to have Scott Coker lead us in a new direction as we evolve the league format from a tournament-based organization to a more traditional model with big fights,” Kay said.
Coker is known for being the CEO of Strikeforce before the organization was sold to Zuffa in 2011. He built Strikeforce from a regional promotion in California to the number two mixed martial arts promotion at that time.
