The UFC and Fox Sports announced the decision on Monday evening in a statement released to the media in a press release.

“The UFC and FOX Sports organizations announced today the termination of their respective broadcasting services agreements with analyst Chael Sonnen,” the statement said.

“This decision comes in light of Sonnen failing a second test conducted by the Nevada Athletic Commission for banned substances in June. Sonnen was previously under temporary suspension by the Nevada Athletic Commission for failing an initial test conducted in May.”

Sonnen tested positive for five banned substances in the two random drug test he submitted to the Nevada State Athletic Commission over the last month. He received a temporary suspension last week for his drug test on Memorial Day weekend and his most recent positive drug test came from a sample he submitted on June 5th in Portland, Oregon.

It should be noted that Sonnen was still scheduled to compete at UFC 175 when he took his most recent drug test on June 5th. He announced his retirement from mixed martial arts on June 11th, which was one day after it was revealed that he tested positive for banned substances for the drug test he submitted on Memorial Day weekend.

The next Nevada State Athletic Commission meeting is scheduled to take place on July 23rd in Las Vegas and Sonnen is expected to be on the agenda.
