Two heavyweight bouts announced for UFC Fight Night 50

The UFC Fight Night 50 fight card on September 5th in Connecticut has added two heavyweight bouts as Alistair Overeem meets Ben Rothwell and Matt Mitrione faces Derrick Lewis.UFC logo

Both fight bookings were announced by UFC officials on Wednesday evening.

UFC Fight Night 50 will come from the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut on September 5th and will be headlined by a middleweight bout as Gegard Mousasi meets Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.

Overeem (37-13, 1NC) has been recovering from an injury and recently moved his training to Jackson/Winkeljohn’s MMA in New Mexico. He will enter this fight following a victory as he defeated Frank Mir at UFC 169. Rothwell (33-9) is coming off a suspension following his drug test at UFC 164, which was a third round victory against Brandon Vera. He has won two of his last three fight and both wins have come by knockout.

Mitrione (7-3) was scheduled to fight this past weekend against Stefan Struve, but Struve was unable to compete due to health issues. Mitrione has on two of his last three fights and his most recent win came in March against Shawn Jordan. Lewis (11-2, 1NC) requested this fight following his victory against Guto Inocente at The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale. He has won both of his fights in the UFC and both wins came by TKO.
