The eleventh season of Bellator MMA will begin in less than thirty days and two heavyweights that are currently not scheduled for a fight are hoping to fight each other as soon as possible.
The heavyweights that are ready to meet each other in the Bellator cage is 2013 Summer Series Heavyweight Tournament Finalist Ryan Martinez and Josh Appelt.
Martinez has been looking for a fight booking and recently took to social media to let everyone know that he wants a fight. Shortly after posing his thoughts on social media, Appelt reached out to see if he would be interested in the fight.
When Appelt contacted Martinez about his willingness to step up and face him, he meant no disrespect to the former heavyweight tournament finalist. Martinez told him that he would definitely be interested in facing him and both fighters told TheMMAReport.com on Tuesday that they are “hungry” and want to get in the cage as soon as possible. Both fighters admitted that they initially heard they could be booked for fights as early as September, but they have not been offered a fight by Bellator at this time.
Because of the fighting style that Martinez brings to the cage, Appelt has always wanted to fight him. This does not bother Martinez as he just wants to fight and is hopeful that Bellator will give him a fight quickly.
If a fight between Martinez and Appelt was booked by Bellator, both fighters agreed that they do not care if the fight is the first fight on the preliminary card, on Spike TV, or an un-aired preliminary bout after the main event. Both guys just want to fight and bring home a paycheck to their families.
Martinez and Appelt have only competed once this year in Bellator and they are both coming off defeats. Martinez lost in the opening round of the season ten heavyweight tournament against Lavar Johnson in March and Appelt lost a decision to Freddie Aquitania in April that he felt he should have won.
