A knee injury has forced Glover Teixeira to pull out of his UFC Fight Night 61 main event bout against Rashad Evans and the February 22nd event will now be headlined by Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva meeting Frank Mir in a heavyweight bout.
The injury and new headliner for the fight card was reported by MMA Fighting as UFC President Dana White informed them of the change.
UFC Fight Night 61 will come from the Gigantinho Gymnasium in Porto Alegre, Brazil and the event will air on Fox Sports 1.
Silva (18-6-1) has gone winless in his last three fights (0-2-1) and his last win came at the beginning of last year against Alistair Overeem. His most recent fight came in September as he lost to Andrei Arlovski by knockout at UFC Fight Night 51.
Mir (16-9) is currently on a four fight losing streak and his most recent defeat came in February against Overeem. His last victory came in 2011 as he submitted Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira by kimura at UFC 140.
