The UFC will be heading to San Diego in July for UFC Fight Night 71 and a lightweight bout has been booked for the fight card as Ultimate Fighter winner Tony Ferguson will meet former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson.
The fight booking was announced by the UFC on Monday afternoon.
Thomson (20-7, 1NC) came back to the UFC in 2013 and scored a TKO victory over Nate Diaz. Since that victory, he has dropped back to back fights and both of those defeats came by split decision.
Ferguson (18-3) is currently on a five fight winning streak and four of those wins have come by stoppage. His last victory came in February at UFC 184 as he submitted Gleison Tibau in the first round.
UFC Fight Night 71 will come the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego on July 15 and the main card will air on Fox Sports 1.
