UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman knows who he will be facing next as it will be former Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold and a date for the fight has not been determined.
UFC President Dana White announced that Rockhold will be getting the next shot at the middleweight title on UFC Tonight on Fox Sports 1.
Rockhold (14-2) is currently on a four fight winning streak and has won a performance bonus in three of those wins. His most recent win came in April as he submitted former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida in the main event of UFC on FOX 15. Weidman (13-0) just made his third successful title defense last month as he defeated Vitor Belfort by TKO in the first round. Four of his last five wins have come by stoppage and the only fighter in that time period that took him the distance was Machida.
A potential date for this title fight could be September 5, which will be UFC 191. This event will come from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. On today’s edition of UFC Tonight, Ariel Helwani reported that flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson would like to be the co-main event of this fight card if the main event is Weidman vs. Rockhold.
