After having ten fights in the UFC, middleweight Costas Philippou has decided to call it a career and the fighter recently informed the promotion that he is retiring from competition.
The Bellemore Kickboxing Academy fighter was removed from the UFC middleweight rankings early this week and UFC Vice President of Public Relations Dave Sholler confirmed on Twitter yesterday that Philippou was removed after informing the promotion that he was retiring.
Philippou (13-5, 1NC) made his MMA debut in 2008 in the northeast promotion, Ring of Combat. After losing his pro debut, he would go unbeaten in his next eight fights before entering the UFC on short notice to face Nick Catone at UFC 128. He would lose a decision to Catone and would end up winning five straight fights, including a TKO win at UFC 155 against Tim Boetsch.
Following the win over Boetsch, he would drop three of his next four fights and the only win came back in May of last year when he defeated Lorenz Larkin. His final bout came two months ago when he lost a decision to Gegard Mousasi at UFC Fight Night 66.
