The status of WSOF welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares will be announced tomorrow by WSOF President Ray Sefo.
WSOF Executive Vice President Ali Abdel-Aziz tweeted on Sunday night that Sefo will announce their decision on Palhares tomorrow.
“Watched the fight with Shields & Palhares,” Abdel-Aziz tweeted. “Palhares did gouge Jakes eyes & held the sub longer than needed. Ray will make announcement Tuesday.”
Palhares retained the WSOF welterweight title with a kimura submission win over Shields in the main event of WSOF 22 this past Saturday night. During the fight, he gauged the eyes of Shields multiple times and did not let go of the submission after Shields tapped multiple times. Once he let go of the submission, Shields punched him and WSOF and Nevada Athletic Commission officials had to get in between both fighters.
At this time, the Nevada Athletic Commission has not announced if there will be any punishment for Palhares and Shields.
