With Johnson vs. Teixeira postponed, Melendez vs. Barboza elevated to co-main event of UFC on FOX 20

The scheduled light heavyweight bout for UFC on FOX 20 between Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira has been postponed and the new co-main event of the July 23 fight card in Chicago will be the previously scheduled lightweight bout between Gilbert Melendez and Edson Barboza.

UFC officials announced the change on Friday afternoon in a statement and stated that “Johnson has been forced to withdraw in order to tend to a serious family matter.”

UFC on FOX 20 will come from the United Center and will be headlined by former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm returning for the first time since losing the title in March as she faces Valentina Shevchenko.

Along with announcing that Melendez vs. Barboza is the new co-main event of the fight card, the UFC revealed that the other two fights that will be part of the four fight main card are Francis Ngannou vs. Bojan Mihajlovic and Felice Herrig vs. Kailin Curran.
