The vacant CES MMA featherweight title will be on the line on August 12 at the Twin River Casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island as Pedro Gonzalez will meet Matt Bessette.
Gonzalez (11-5) is coming off a rear-naked choke submission win at CES MMA 35 in April against Andres Jeudi and he is currently on a four fight winning streak. It was his first mixed martial arts fight in nearly two years and ten of his eleven victories in mixed martial arts competition have come by submission.
“I do want to fight smart and take the right fights,” Gonzalez stated on Wednesday’s edition of The MMA Report Podcast about being more active in mixed martial arts. “Just coming off two years and then fighting a guy like Andres. Like I said, not looking past Andres, but I knew that was an easier fight for me. Now I am facing Matt Bessette. My second fight coming off two years. I want to test myself and right now Matt is the guy to beat around here. I think a win over him is another step closer to the UFC. If I beat him, that’s five in a row and hopefully that will get me there.”
