The second fight of the UFC 162 preliminary card was a welterweight bout as Brian Melancon won his UFC debut with a knockout over Seth Baczynski at the 4:59 minute mark of the first round.
The fight opened with Melancon landing a left hook that had Baczynski backing up. Baczynski became defensive but Melancon continued to land several punches and continued to come forward.
Melancon landed a punch that dropped Baczynski and he looked for the finish on the ground. After being unable to get the finish on the ground, Melancon got up and made Baczynski get back to his feet.
Melancon ended up taking the fight back to the ground and went for the finish in the final ten seconds of the round. He landed several punches on the ground and referee Yves Lavigne came in to stop the fight with one second left in the opening round.
Melancon (7-2) has now won back to back fights and this is his fifth career first round victory. With this defeat, Baczynski (18-10) has lost back to back fights after being on a six fight win streak.
