In the only women’s bout on the card, former Bellator fighter Jessica Eye made her debut with the UFC and defeated former Strikeforce champion Sarah Kaufman by split decision.
Eye opened up the fight as the aggressor and after an exchange of punches, Eye initiated the clinch which she landed a couple of uppercuts.
Kaufman would be able to break away and they went back to a boxing battle. Kaufman would land kicks and knees during the rest of the opening round, but Eye was able to counter the strikes with punches.
In the second round, they continued their striking battle with Eye having success with her jab as Kaufman was coming in.
As the round went on, Kaufman began to have success with her right hand and elected to clinch with Eye against the fence. Eye would be able to break away and the remainder of the second round would stay on the feet with each fighter landing strikes.
At the beginning of the third round, Kaufman landed a right hand and once again, went into the clinch. Eye would be able to break away and they exchange strikes for two minutes before they went back into the clinch. Eye would once again break away and Kaufman would land a right hand that rocked Eye.
With Kaufman on the attack, Eye initiated the clinch to recover from the strikes. Kaufman would be able to break away with 40 seconds left in the fight and she landed several significant strikes before the final bell sounded.
Two of the three judges scored the fight for Eye (11-1) and she has now won eight straight fights.
