After winning six fights in a row outside of the UFC, Anthony Johnson will be returning to the organization and will meet Phil Davis at UFC 172.
UFC President Dana White announced the signing of Johnson today on Twitter.
UFC 172 will take place from the Baltimore Arena on April 26th and will be headlined by Jon Jones defending the UFC light heavyweight title against Glover Teixeira.
Johnson (16-4) was released by the UFC in early 2012 after losing to Vitor Belfort by submission at UFC 142. Since that defeat, Johnson has won six in a row and four of his last five wins have come by TKO/KO.
“As most of you know, I’m back in the UFC and will be fighting Phil Davis,” Johnson wrote on Facebook. “I’m blessed for the opportunity I have received. Thank you to all my supporters and doubters. It was much need and thank you to the UFC, Phil Davis, the Blackzilians, Glenn Robinson and ASM. Also would like to thank WSOF for being a awesome organization and helping me improve my career and my life. Much Respect to everybody.”
Davis (12-1, 1NC) has gone unbeaten in his last four fights and is coming off a win against former UFC champion Lyoto Machida at UFC 163 in August. It was his eighth win in the UFC and five of those victories have come by decision.
