The UFC is planning to head back to Brazil on January 19th and a heavyweight bout has been targeted for the event with Ben Rothwell facing Gabriel Gonzaga.
The news of the fight was originally reported by Tatame.com and other news sources are reporting the fight booking as well.
Rothwell (32-8) has gone 2-2 in the UFC and is coming off a win earlier this year against Brendan Schaub at UFC 145. He won the fight by knockout in the first round and won the knockout of the night bonus.
He was scheduled to take on Travis Browne at UFC on FOX 4 in August, but had to pull out of the fight with an injury.
Gonzaga (13-6) is in his second stint with the UFC and returned to the company in January with and first round submission victory over Ednaldo Oliviera at UFC 142. He was supposed to take on Geronimo dos Santos at UFC 153, but the fight was scratched when Dos Santos failed his pre-fight medicals.
The January 19th UFC card in Brazil has not been formally announced by the UFC and it’s expected to be either UFC on FX 7 or UFC on FUEL TV 7.
