Patricky Pitbull is one of the most successful lightweights in Bellator history and he is a two-time Bellator lightweight tournament finalist.
During the season ten tournament last year, he steamed rolled his way to the final with TKO/KO victories over former title challenger David Rickels and Derek Campos.
He would meet Marcin Held in the tournament final at Bellator 126 and just like in his first tournament final in 2011 against Michael Chandler, he would come up short with a decision defeat.
When he looks back at the fight against Held, Pitbull admitted that he was overcautious in the fight and it cost him the victory.
“I think if I had my game flow on the ground I’d be successful,” Pitbull told The MMA Report through a translator. “I trained so much the defenses of leg attacks that I only thought about that and didn’t use my game. If I had attacked and used my game I believe I would have won. I got overcautious and it cost me, I didn’t let my game flow on the stand up either. I should have focused on what I would or could do instead of worrying about what he could do.”
Pitbull (13-6) was active in 2013 due to his participation in the season ten lightweight tournament. It was the first time since 2011 that he had at least three fights in one year and his first fight in 2015 has not been announced at this time. He is hoping to fight soon and that fight could take place in the summer.
“I hope to fight at least three times this year,” he explained. “They haven’t announced any fight for me yet, but I hope it happens. I should have fought this month. I hope they give me at least three fights and to win them all, finish the year strong. I should have fought already. I hope it’s soon. I asked for several names, including Chandler. I’m in shape, training every day. But of course I’ll want a full camp as in order to preserve my body I’ve only been doing light training. So I hope I fight sometime around the end of June.”
Just like any fighter, Pitbull has set some short term goals for his career. The major goal is to put himself in title contention and accomplish something he has been looking to do since entering Bellator in 2011, become a world champion.
“Win, win, win and become the champion. I want to fight the best there is, the guys that will get me closer to a title shot. If I can avenge some of my losses in the process it’s even better. I want to be the world champion and accomplish even more after that.”
