At 44 years of age and having won championships in PRIDE and Strikeforce, Dan Henderson has had a legendary career.
With every definitive loss – and he’s had 3 in his last 4 fights, questions regarding a retirement begin to be asked, but Henderson has no intention of retiring for at least a few more fights.
“I have three fights left on my deal, and I plan on finishing that,” Henderson said on UFC Tonight yesterday. “Beyond that, we’ll see. I didn’t get a chance in my last fight to see how I feel at middleweight.”
And in that last fight, Henderson was put away in 70 seconds by a violent Gegard Mousasi at UFC on Fox 14. Now, Henderson returns to action this Saturday against Tim Boetsch in the main event of UFC Fight Night 68. Henderson has changed up his approach in the lead-up to his fight against Boetsch.
“I focused a little more on my conditioning since it’s five rounds,” Henderson said. “I don’t think he’s got anything I haven’t seen before. He has a hard right hand, a good left hook and a good push kick. He’ll try to take me down. I have to just be careful. I feel good. I have a feeling it’ll be a pretty exciting fight.”
Boetsch has traded wins and losses in his last four UFC outings with his last victory coming by way of TKO over Brad Tavares. Henderson has a general idea of how he’ll approach Boetsch and attempt to give him his second loss in a row.
“I have to be as aggressive as I can without getting taken down,” Henderson said. “I want to stay in his face and make him work. We both like to be in the clinch, so we’ll see what happens from there.”
And while Henderson was on UFC Tonight, he gave Light Heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier some wisdom on how to take care of his title.
“You’re asking the wrong guy. I had mine in a little tub, but my wife displayed them up nicely. But don’t wear it around everywhere you go.”
