Bantamweight Kody Nordby will look for his fourth win in a row tomorrow night in the main event of CES MMA 33 in Lincoln, Rhode Island when he meets Andre Soukhamthath for the inaugural CES MMA 135 pound title.
Nordby (6-3) has won his last three fights by rear-naked choke submission and has been looking to fight Soukhamthath for some time. Both fighters attended the same high school in Rhode Island and during Tuesday’s edition of “The MMA Report Podcast,” Nordby explained why he has wanted this fight and why he feels it’s a good matchup for him.
“This is a fight that I have always wanted because I feel like we would be a good matchup,” Nordby stated. “Both of us being from the same hometown. I was about 19 years-old when I first sought the matchup. I feel he kind of took it the wrong way. Took it to heart and took it personally. It wasn’t meant to be that at all. Over the years, I kept trying to make this fight happen and he kept taking it personal that I was calling him out.”
“That is kind of where the bad blood first came from,” he continued. “He had agreed to fight me a couple of times and it fell through. Whether it was him having a child or whatever the case may be. I guess CES had to dangle a belt in front of his face in order to take the fight. I am glad he did. I think I matchup pretty well with Andre. He is more of a stand up guy. Watching his last fight, personally I don’t think he has much of a ground game. I don’t he is at the level of wrestling I am at so I really think it’s a good matchup for me.”
