NEF 22 will take place on Saturday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine and the amateur portion of the event will feature a women’s featherweight bout as Angela Young has her second amateur fight when she faces Hannah Sparrell.
Young (0-1) lost her amateur debut in September by unanimous decision at NEF 19 against Rachel Reinheimer and she was a guest on this past Thursday’s edition of “The MMA Report Podcast.” Along with discussing her fight on Saturday in Maine, Young talked about balancing her schedule as a fighter, wife and mother.
“You know it’s funny. My husband and I were talking just yesterday,” she explained. “I have been cross training at Lawton’s Martial Arts couple of times a week here and there. We were on our way back and we were talking about the balance. We were talking about training and I said that I train about six days a week. At least a couple of times a day and I said I can’t imagine not training as much for a fight even though it’s amateur.”
“I am only going into my second fight, but the confidence it brings in knowing that I have put the time in makes me feel better getting in there,” she continued. “And a lot of people think I am crazy. I have co-workers that think, ‘I don’t know how you do it.’ But we make it work. I have a five-year-old son. Chris lives in the gym so to speak. He is here every day and he bring our son in. He watches some of the classes. When we are home, we are home. We do family activities. I am not going to say it’s easy and it’s certainly a struggle, but we make it work. It’s our life and our family is very happy doing it.”
