The main event of CES MMA 37 will be a rematch as bantamweight champion Andre Soukhamthath will look to even up the score against Kim Moy as they will meet on the fight card coming from the Twin River Casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island.
Soukhamthath (10-3) became the CES MMA bantamweight champion earlier this year will a flying knee knockout against Kody Nordby and his first matchup with Moy came over two years ago at CES MMA 21. On that night, Moy scored a decision victory and Soukhamthath recalled their first meeting earlier this week on “The MMA Report Podcast.”
“I actually took that fight on two weeks notice because the original opponent backed out,” Soukhamthath stated. “Not to make any excuses, I took the fight. On paper, I lost but I still think I won the fight. If you watch the video. Took him down a lot of times. Kept position pretty good. I admit he beat my ass in the third round. He beat me up. But I thought I won rounds one and two. But I am saying he only had 50 percent of me because I took that fight for the wrong reasons.”
“I needed the money at that time. I was living in Florida and did not have a job and was running out of money,” he continued. “So I thought it was the right thing to do. Not just for me, but my family. Also, I had another personal issue. Actually, I had a family member passing away from cancer. Who was my uncle and actually got that phone call maybe two days before they offered me that fight. I just thought it was a good opportunity to fly up and see him before he passed. Ended up working out because he passed away two days after the fight. So I got to stick around for the funeral. I got a fight home and money in my pocket. I did not get the win, but I will this time.”
