Nick Campbell has a new opponent for his vacant light heavyweight title fight at Unified MMA 28 on September 30 as Denny Houle has pulled out of the fight card due to an injury and stepping up on short notice to face Campbell will be Anton Tokarchuk.
The fight change was announced by Unified MMA officials on Saturday.
Tokarchuk (4-2) is coming off a first round victory against Josh Heinz at Hard Knocks 44 last year and five of his six fights have ended in the first round. Three of his four victories have come by TKO/KO and this will be his Unified MMA debut.
“I’m going to play the stand-up game. He’s pretty good there too, so whatever happens will happen,” says Tokarchuk. “If I get an opportunity to submit Nick, I’m going to go for it. But I’d love another knockout. It really doesn’t matter, as long as I finish him and get that belt.”
Campbell (9-7) enters this fight with back to back victories and is coming off a TKO victory against Devon Smith in May at Saturday Night Fights 11. He has won four of his last six fights and all of those victories have come by TKO.
“I was looking forward to fighting Denny, but this fight was never about fighting Denny, specifically — it’s about taking home the Unified MMA Championship,” says Campbell. “Now, I’m excited to take out Anton and bring the belt back to Calgary.”
Unified MMA 28 will come from The Royal Palace in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and will be headlined by Tanner Boser defending the heavyweight title against Joe Yager.
