Bellator 172 took place last night from the SAP Center in San Jose, California and was headlined by Patricky “Pitbull” Freire scoring his tenth victory inside the Bellator cage as he defeated Josh Thomson by knockout in the second round.
In the co-main event of the fight card, Cheick Kongo extended his winning streak to four fights as he scored a decision victory over his former training partner Oli Thompson.

- The knockout victory for Pitbull is his 7th TKO/KO in the Bellator cage and this is the 2nd most in Bellator history (Hector Lombard and Douglas Lima are tied for the most with 8).
- The defeat for Josh Thomson snaps a two fight winning streak and this is only the 2nd time in his career that he has been defeated by knockout (Yves Edwards, UFC 49).
- Cheick Kongo now has 8 wins inside the Bellator cage and this is the most victories in Bellator heavyweight division history.
- Oli Thompson has dropped back to back fights after winning five in a row in 2015.
- Anatoly Tokov won his Bellator debut by TKO in the second round against Francisco France and he now has 15 career victories by TKO/KO.
- Francisco France has now dropped back to back fights after winning his Bellator debut in late 2015 against Ben Reiter.
- Veta Arteaga improved to 3-1 with a TKO victory by doctor stoppage against Brooke Mayo and this is her first victory to come by stoppage.
- Mauricio Alonso won his third straight fight with a TKO victory over Josh Koscheck and this is the 6th straight defeat for Koscheck.
