Video: Douglas Lima targeting to return in June, interested in defending title against Lorenz Larkin

Douglas Lima became a two-time Bellator welterweight champion last year when he evened up the score against Andrey Koreshkov when he scored a knockout victory in the third round at Bellator 164.

Following the victory over Koreshkov at Bellator 164, Lima (28-6) had to rehab some injuries and returned to training earlier this month. With Lima returning to the gym, when will the Bellator welterweight champion return to defend his title and who is he interested in fighting?

On Wednesday evening, I had the opportunity to speak with Lima about that question and he mentions that he is interested in facing Lorenz Larkin at Bellator 180 in New York City. Other topics in our conversation included Rory MacDonald vs. Paul Daley, if he is rooting for MacDonald to win that fight, the unique striking style of Michael Page and next week’s Bellator 175.

  2. I hate the Sonnen vs Silva and Chandler vs Primus fights. The other two fights I really like. Hbu? Why are they obsessed with Chael Sonnen? He’s a cheat and highly controversial. Maybe bc he’s a big draw. But we don’t know if he can still draw on PPV.

    1. Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva was the right fight to make. There is history between them and both of them will do a tremendous job of selling this fight. When it comes to Sonnen being a pay-per-view draw, that is a theory based on his fights with Anderson Silva and Jon Jones. Without the opponents being Anderson and Jon, how much of a PPV draw was he for the UFC. And when he fought at UFC 167, that was a GSP card. So really tough to say how much of those buys were because of Chael. In today’s UFC PPV landscape, I consider a fighter being a draw when they can bring in +400k PPV units. Is Chael that? Probably not.

      On Michael Chandler vs. Brent Primus, I am not surprised this is the fight that was made by Bellator. Look at the Bellator lightweight division, the only other fighter you could consider for a title shot right now would be Patricky Pitbull. However, do you want to go back to Chandler vs. Pitbull due to the fact to how their fight ended last year? This would have been Thomson’s fight if he would have beaten Patricky. They should have just made Chandler vs. Thomson instead of having Thomson fight Patricky. However, Thomson has previously stated that he is only interested in fighting in San Jose.

    1. I do not believe Bellator would sell many more PPV’s with Fedor fighting Lashley than Mitrione. Remember, if this PPV is a success, Fedor vs. Lashley is a fight you can book on the next PPV. And a successful PPV for Bellator is likely over 150k PPV buys. Can they do that? Only time will tell.

      1. I think they’ll do somewhere from 100k – 150k buys. If nothing happens to the fights.

      2. But Fedor vs Mitrione was hours away from being on Spike. And now you have to pay for it. Why not just match Fedor up with someone else.

  4. In reply to your yet another juvenile comment on another post about me not going to school, again, you keep showing just how much of a anger management problem you have. Would you walk up to another adult and insult them to their face? I imagine not, but the internet makes people like you feel brave and bold.
