A welterweight bout between top contenders has been added to the UFC 156 card on February 2nd with Jon Fitch taking on Demian Maia.
The fight was announced by UFC officials on Thursday night and the fight will be on the main card of UFC 156.
“Maia hopes to move up the welterweight rankings by taking out perennial contender Fitch,” said UFC President Dana White. “Fitch wants to build on his Fight of the Night-winning victory over Erick Silva.”
Fitch (24-4-1, 1NC) recently returned to the UFC after nearly a year away from the cage with a decision victory over Erick Silva at UFC 153 in Brazil.
Maia (17-4) is a former middleweight title contender that moved down to the welterweight division earlier this year. Since moving to the welterweight division, he has gone 2-0 with wins over Dong Hyun Kim and Rick Story.
UFC 156 takes place on February 2nd at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and will be headlined by Jose Aldo defending his UFC featherweight title against former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.
