Bellator kicks off lightweight tournament this week

The eighth season of Bellator MMA continues this week from the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Michigan and the main card on Spike TV will feature the quarterfinals of the lightweight tournament. Bellator 87

The preliminary card will begin at 7 p.m. ET on Spike.com and will feature seven fights and the main card will begin at 10 p.m. ET on Spike TV with the four lightweight quarterfinal tournament bouts.

This season’s lightweight tournament will feature fighters that have been in previous Bellator tournament, which includes David Rickels dropping down from the welterweight division to compete in this tournament.

The quarterfinal bouts on Thursday night will be Alexander “Tiger” Sarnavskiy (21-1) vs. Thiago Michel (11-3), Will Brooks (8-0) vs. Ricardo Tirloni (15-3), Guillaume DeLorenzi (10-1) vs. Patricky Pitbull (10-4) and Rickels (11-1) vs. Lloyd Woodard (12-2).

The winners will advance to the semifinals of the tournament and those fights will take place later on in this season of Bellator. At this time, Bellator has not announced a target date for when the semifinals will take place.
